Petits Francophones Kindergarten–   This class is open to bilingual students. In this class, all activities are conducted in French. It aims to develop a rich oral language, organized and understandable by others. The child speaks and is understood through the language. He learns to be attentive to messages addressed to him, to understand and respond appropriately. The child starts the basic acquisition of the alphabet, the sounds and will be introduced to reading and writing in French.

Jeunes Francophones 1st graders  – This class is open to bilingual students who are already reading in English and will be reading and writing in French. In this class, all activities are conducted in French. The child starts the basic acquisition in reading, writing as well as grammar skills. The student will be taught to better differentiate English to French and to understand the basic grammar rules.

Moyens Francophones 2nd and 3rd graders – This class is open to truly fluent in French students who are reading and writing in French. In this class, all activities are conducted in French. Middle School – French for Native Speakers (from 6th to 8th graders) – In this class, the students will continue improving their French language skills learned in their previous years. We encourage all students with bilingual education to join EFNY. According to our experience, bilingual students will be able to keep and also improve their French language level by continuing EFNY classes. New students will be assessed (verbal and written assessment) and, following their French knowledge, will be placed in the appropriate level group.

Préparation aux examens de français avancé (from 9th to 11th graders) for native French speakers/advanced French learners.
This class prepares High School students for the DELF B2 exam and the AP French Language and Culture exam. Weekly assignments will be necessary for efficient progress.

    • DELF exams offer an official certification awarded by the French Ministry of Education. Passing level B2 (upper intermediate level) gives access to several French universities.
    • AP exams are American exams taken during High School that demonstrate mastery of rigorous college-level material. Students who pass the AP exam earn credits in most colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. This class will be theme-based. Students will develop French skills in understanding, speaking, reading and writing, while deepening their knowledge on Francophone cultures. Students will also reinforce vocabulary and grammar in varied, creative and engaging contexts, using different resources (videos, audios, literary and documentary texts, websites…). New students will be assessed (verbal and written assessment) and, following their French knowledge, will be placed in the appropriate level group.

Please note that AP exams are taken in high schools in May. Check with your high school if you can register for the exam “AP French Language and Culture”.  DELF exams can be taken in FIAF (French Institute – Alliance française) end of May-beginning of June.

The EFNY program follows a French-only policy in all Francophone classes. Please help us with this by encouraging your child to follow this rule.
