JULY 2020 FRENCH SUMMER SCHOOL AT EFNY –  REGISTRATION IS CLOSED –

First time oblige, EFNY will welcome virtually its students for some fun learning. Summer will never be virtual but our classes YES !

This summer, from Monday 6th July to Friday July 31st, we will offer morning learning sessions fun-filled where children will be able to enjoy numerous activities and amazing experiences with their preferred teachers.* Children from 5 to 14 (K to 8th grade) will experience virtual journey through French activities.  Alongside these activities, they will practice and enrich their French with their EFNY teachers and their friends. *Please be aware that all activities will be organized in unique small group (>8 students/class)

Schedule : : The activities will take place from Monday to Friday, 10am to 11.30am.

The cost for EFNY virtual 2020 Summer program is:                                                                                                                                                    1 Pack of  2 sessions (Monday&Wednesday or Tuesday&Thursday):  $40 per week
Friday “a la carte ” : 1 class $20
I learn French (Mondays&Wednesdays or Tuesdays&Thursdays) – 2 sessions per week during 4 weeks : $160

Description

Kindergarten & 1st Grade – French Native Speaker 

Calligraphie with Jeanne (Monday & Wednesday) This class is suitable for Native French speakers K and 1st graders.
A letter, a word, a poem, a book, a work of art, so as not to lose the ability in drawing beautiful letters in cursive while forgetting neither to laugh nor to smile. Let’s take a ride back in history and meet the civilizations who first started to draw and write to leave a testimony of their presence and tell us their story. “Calligraphy or the art of elegantly and artistically forming the characters of writing” Week 1: Story/Abécédaire – Les grottes de Lascaux/art workshop. Week 2: Poems/Calligrams – The Sumerians/art workshop. Week 3: Story/A letter, a drawing – The Egyptians & papyrus/art workshop. Week 4: The alphabet in art history – The Chinese art of writing/art workshop.

Les petits aventuriers au pays des contes with Claire (Monday & Wednesday)  ALL CLASSES ARE FULL – This class is suitable for Native French speaker K & 1st graders. Once upon a time, a group of children entered the marvelous kingdom of fairy tales and became the heroes of thrilling adventures. Centered around the reading of stories from all over the world, the session will help your kids strengthen their listening, comprehension, and syllables recognition skills. Through games, songs and creative projects, they will use their vivid imagination to make drawings or puppets of their favorite characters, invent new story lines and replay scenes from the story.

Eveil musical with Anna (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for Native French speaker K and 1st graders.
In this class, we will explore classical music masterpieces, such as The carnival of animals, Peter and the wolf, Swan lake or The magic flute. The main themes are the orchestra, instruments, rythm and emotions. Together, we will learn to hear sounds and beauty, and to connect music with our reality.

Arts plastiques with Alexia (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for Native French Speaker K and 1st graders. ALL CLASSES ARE FULL
Week 1: My superhero in NYC. You will need : markers, scissors, paper, cardboard (from a box for exemple) and colored pencil- Week 2 : My summer snack : ice cream and small cakes made of salt dough. You will need (flour, salt and water) and paints, brushes, cardboard, packaging for deco – Week 3 : Self-portrait for my room : collage from recovery material in the house. You will need : scissors, glue, cardboard and various objects of your choice. – Week 4: My pet on the wall. From a one gallon bottle or bigger, make an animal of your choice. You will need : scissors, glue, paint, coloured markers and paper or fabric

Do you think you can control your body ? Can you recreate a specific rhythm with only one part of your body ? The class “Move your Body” is the apprenticeship of the movement (dance) in relation to the music. Through this class, the kids will have the opportunity to dance simple choreography as well as create their own movements according to how the music makes them feel. Dance is all about feeling.

Theatre Improvisation with Salima (Friday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers K – 1st grade.
Games and exercises to develop imagination, listening, and speaking.

 

2nd & 3rd Grade- French Native Speaker & Advanced French as foreign language 

Theatre with Clarisse (Monday & Wednesday) This class is suitable for 2nd and 3rd grade.
It takes little to make theatre and express your imagination. An idea, a picture, a song, an object, a sound, a game, your body… With these theatre workshops, your children can escape into other worlds by creating stories and characters from their own homes, and all in French!

Bouge ton corps with Lauriane (Monday & Wednesday) This class is suitable for all EFNY students from 2nd-5th grade
Do you think you can control your body ? Can you recreate a specific rhythm with only one part of your body ? The class “Move your Body” is the apprenticeship of the movement (dance) in relation to the music. Through this class, the kids will have the opportunity to dance simple choreography as well as create their own movements according to how the music makes them feel. Dance is all about feeling.

Culture generale with Matthieu (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for 2nd and 3rd graders and Native French speaker only (no classes on week 4Do you know Paris ? Have you ever been there? What did you see? What did you prefer? What memories do you have ? And would you like to go back ? If you are interested, jo in us in the “Culture Générale” EFNY class. We will go to discover the museums that make the reputation of the city, we will walk through different districts and we will notice some particularities like the Eiffel Tower but also the metro or some gastronomic specialties as well as some great personalities. Along the Seine, we will go back in time to discover the history of the city and its inhabitants, we will walk in the streets of the past through the works of painters of the time. Like a detective, you will scrutinize paintings in search of hidden details, witnesses of daily life through the ages.

Musique with Hong Tam (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for 2nd and 3rd grade.
Music comes in all forms and shapes; it’s a wonderful universal language of emotions. While sharing and laughing, we will explore the different genres and instruments, perform body rhythm, sing (French pop of course!), discover main French masterpieces and composers and why not (re)write songs! Play is the key word Come and practice music together!

Arts plastiques with Sabrina (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/advanced French as Foreign Language learners 2-5th. ALL CLASSES ARE FULL The Workshops ” In the style of ….” focus on fun, discovery and experimentation in visual arts. This series of workshops will give your children the opportunity to learn notions of art, to explore different techniques but also to express their creativity and sensitivity by making their own creation.Each week, the children will discover the world of a different artist, who made art history. Description of art works, discovery of artists, introduction to the specific vocabulary of the arts and creation will be on the program of your budding artists.

Art de vivre ecologique with Matthieu (Friday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers only 2-3d (no class W4 )
“You’d rather move than sit on your hands? Do you want to get involved in the future of the planet? You’re curious and you like to know what you’re talking about? You want information, advice? Do you like riddles, games, alternative solutions? The small ecological classes proposed within EFNY will first offer you to discuss around an image, a photo, etc., then read small texts or paragraphs and finally make games in the form of questions, other soft Mcqs (Mcqs). We will see how to avoid throwing away or why consuming responsibly are relevant today. So don’t be afraid and become a defender of the planet.”

Intervilles with Hong Tam (Friday) this class is suitable for students from 2th to 5th grade.
“EFNY has officially its own version of INTERVILLES, a very popular summer game in France. It’s all about friendly team competition and laugh! What about scavenger hunts, agility or speed games, creative works, music games…. ? Sole assignment: to have fun in French! “Shana nananana…..” Top à la vachette!”

 

4th & 5th grade – French Native Speaker  & Advanced French as foreign language

Ecriture creative Francois (Monday & Wednesday) This class is suitable for Native French Speaker and advanced French as Foreign Language learners 4th & 5th grade.
In this workshop, participants will explore creative writing through playful activities, individual and collective projects, and a variety of sound and visual media.

A la decouverte du 7eme art with Aurelien (Monday & Wednesday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language 4-5th graders.Bonjour ! My name is Aurélien. I’m a French teacher as well as a freelance film editor. In this series of workshops, designed with a hands-on approach, students will discover several aspects of filmmaking, including screenwriting, storyboarding, directing and editing, through the lens of French cinema. Students will watch short films, clips from live-action and animated films to study French culture and learn more about visual storytelling.

Jeu de francais with Elise (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language 4-5th.  Week 1 FULL. Playing while learning ? It’s possible ! This game class will feature serious games related to French : grammar, spelling, conjugation and vocabulary. We will play some famous games like Trivial Pursuit, Tic tac bomb, Goose game, Jungle Speed, Naval battle… We will also play some more traditional games like hanging man, memory, word search, dictionary game … (the list is long). Most of those games were tested and approved by students. The aim is to have fun while learning or reviewing !

Detectives en herbe – Enquetes et escape games with Claire (Friday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language 4-5th. In teams, your children will interrogate suspects and decipher enigmas to escape and resolve investigations taking place in historic locations and periods like Ancient Egypt, Versailles under Louis XIV or Paris in the Belle-Epoque. Mobilizing their knowledge of French, their culture, and their collaborative skills, they will discover who dyed the king’s wig in pink, how to escape the Great Pyramid of Giza or who stole the Eiffel Tower’s blueprints.

Intervilles with Hong Tam (Friday) this class is suitable for students from 2th to 5th grade.

Atelier debat with Francois – only Week 3 & 4 (Friday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language from 4th & 5th. Participants in this workshop will be encouraged to question and enrich their perception of reality through a series of roleplaying activities and arbitrated debates.

 

6th to 8th grade – French Native Speaker & Advanced French as foreign language 

Ecriture creative with Luma (Monday & Wednesday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language from 6th to 8th. The writing workshop is a lot of fun because it stimulates creativity. Each week, there’s a different theme – adventure (Harry Potter, the Hobbit…), monsters (ogres, the Beauty and the beast…), the magic (the Firebird, fairies and elves…), heroes (super heroes…). We start with an image, a text, an audio or a video. The first workshop of the week is based on real observation – understanding the topic, answering questions, expressing and justifying our point of view – and the second workshop is more based on fictional creation – imagining a character, describing a place, putting ourselves in the character’s shoes, expressing our feelings and emotions. We close the class on a writing games, and there you go!

Decouverte de l’Europe with Veronique (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language from 6th to 8th. “This summer I invite you to discover Europe. We will work each session on a new country. We will start with a brief presentation, its shape, the flag, where it is located on a geography map. Then according to the countries we will approach the culture, the fashion, the language, the cooking, the things to visit… Everyone can express themselves on the basis of a questionnaire (do I like this country? why? – have I already visited this country? …). And we will end up with a more fun activity (games, cooking recipes, mimes…).”

Escape game autour du Francais with Elise (Friday) This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Advanced French as Foreign Language from 6th to 8th. This class is suitable for Native French Speakers/Adv French as Foreign Language 4-5th-
Escape game ? Online ? The principle is simple : clues must be found in order to resolve a problem and win while exploring an exciting world. The puzzles will be centered on French language (grammar, spelling, conjugation, vocabulary), a good way to review without even noticing it! The class will consist in an escape game and we might add one or two serious games if the students are really fast!

This summer I learn French with Yasmine (Tuesday & Thursday) This class is suitable for beginners for 1st and 2d grade. Kids will discover and reinforce their knowledge of the French language and culture through a wild range of fun activities each day like : readings (les vacances du A, Simon ne veut pas aller à la piscine…) educational games (Trivia, Hangman, Word search, Scavenger hunt…), songs (complete the lyrics, Freeze dance, karaoke…) and crafts. (Week 1 : Les vacances  – Week 2 : S’amuser dans l’eau – Week 3 : Aventures dans la nature  -Week 4 : Voyage à Paris)
