Qualifications For Teachers

  • Requirements for teaching in the EFNY after school programs are as follows:

    • Valid US work permit
    • Teaching experience in a bilingual setting working with children from 5 to 10 years of age
    • Evening availability between 3:00pm and 5:30pm and ability to travel to different classroom sites
    • All teachers must have their fingerprints taken (this is a requirement from the NYCDOE on some sites)
    • Availability for coordination meetings (these meetings are paid; and occur 3-4 times a year)
    • Willingness to sign a contract with EFNY
    • Ability to communicate with parents, site coordinators, and the EFNY Board of Directors

    We are looking for 3 types of profiles:

    • French Teacher mother tongue language capable of teaching French reading and writing to children who already speak French and read and speak English. Must be able to teach groups of 10-12 children between 6 and 10 years of age with levels and ages relatively heterogeneous. Extensive experience required.
    • French Teacher second language capable of teaching French to children between 4 to 10 years of age speaking little or no French.
    • Moderator: French speaking teacher’s Assistant/counselor with experience with primary school children

    All teachers must prepare their own materials (costs will be reimbursed), utilize methods appropriate for after school play / learning; be patient with children and flexible in their approaches.

  • Requirements for teaching in NYC DOE bilingual program administered by EFNY:

    • Valid US work permit
    • Be qualified to teach for the NYC DOE
    • AHave the additional qualifications specified by each school

    It is the NYC DOE that recruits and establishes working conditions.

    EFNY is currently working on an agreement for recognition of foreign qualifications between France and the NYC DOE.

    • The school is looking for a headmaster for an opening in September 2008.
    • The criteria are as follows:
      • Valid US work permit
      • Qualities of leadership, and an entrepreneurial spirit to assist and lead in the creation of a new school
      • Qualified principal or willingness and ability to obtain necessary qualifications through the Leadership Academy (see their criteria on http://www.nycleadershipacademy.org/)
      • 3 years minimum teaching at primary, secondary or high school level
      • Knowledge of NYC DOE rules and operations
      • Knowledge of the French the English language
