Classes Description:

French for Native Speakers
Specialized support for the study of the French language and Francophone culture through extracurricular classes for all levels of French study at sites throughout NYC. The French Native Speakers program is based on French literature, songs, games, and crafts that will enrich students’ vocabulary and expand their conversation skills. For older children, a reading and writing approach, as well as focus on grammar and conjugation, is also part of the curriculum
French as a Second Language
Specialized support for the study of the French language and Francophone culture through extracurricular classes for all levels of French study at sites throughout NYC. For children who are learning French as a second language, our curriculum focuses on a fun, educational and age-appropriate environment through cultural and linguistic immersion. The students will play games, sing songs but also learn to read and write in French.

Écriture créative (from 3rd to 5th graders) – This class is suitable for native French speakers and advanced French as foreign language learners. In this workshop, participants will explore the creative process and practice their writing skills through an array of playful activities and collective projects, as they engage with a wide variety of sound and visual media.

Culture générale (from Kindergarten to 8th graders)  –  These classes will focus on History and Geography. Students need to be fluent in French. Language skills will be studied during this class. In this class French language academics will be introduced in a new creative way. Students will explore every aspect of French culture and heritage: history, arts (painting, literature, photography, film, architecture), gastronomy, traditions. They will discover major figures from different periods.

Middle School – French for Native Speakers / Advanced French Learners (from 6th to 8th graders) – In this class, the students will continue improving their French language skills learned in their previous years. We encourage all students with bilingual education to join EFNY. According to our experience, bilingual students will be able to keep and also improve their French language level by continuing EFNY classes.

Préparation aux examens de français avancé (from 9th to 11th graders)  –  This class will take place on Tuesdays from 5:30PM to 7:00PM – Written evaluation by zoom on September 14 from 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm. This class is suitable for native French speakers/advanced French learners.
The participants will be required to pass a written evaluation (short essay).
This class prepares High School students for the DELF B2 exam and the AP French Language and Culture exam. Weekly assignments will be necessary for efficient progress.

  • DELF exams offer an official certification awarded by the French Ministry of Education. Passing level B2 (upper intermediate level) gives access to several French universities.
  • AP exams are American exams taken during High School that demonstrate mastery of rigorous college-level material. Students who pass the AP exam earn credits in most colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. This class will be theme-based. Students will develop French skills in understanding, speaking, reading and writing, while deepening their knowledge on Francophone cultures. Students will also reinforce vocabulary and grammar in varied, creative and engaging contexts, using different resources (videos, audios, literary and documentary texts, websites…).

Please note that AP EXAMS are taken in high schools im May. Check with your high school if you can register for the exam “AP French Language and Culture”.        DELF exams can be taken in FIAF (French Institute – Alliance française) end of May-beginning of June.

The EFNY program follows a French-only policy in all Francophone classes. Please help us with this by encouraging your child to follow this rule.
