Registration for  2025-2026 at PS 3 (West Village) is open!

2025-2026 year will start on September 15th 2025, and end on June 18th, 2026.
EFNY follows the DOE Calendar (exception: NO class on December 22nd, 2025). 
As spots are limited, registration is on a first come first served basis.

 Classes Description:

 

French for Francophones (from Kindergarten to 5th grade)

Petits Francophones (K & 1st grade) – This class is for bilingual students. All activities are conducted in French and aim to develop rich, organized verbal language that others can understand. Children are encouraged to speak and be understood in French. They also learn to listen, comprehend, and respond appropriately. The class introduces the alphabet, phonics, and the first steps toward reading and writing in French.

Moyens Francophones (2nd & 3d grade)This class is open to French speaking students who are starting to read and write in French. All activities are conducted in French. Children are introduced to varied and more complex texts, while learning some basic rules of grammar, spelling and conjugation. They also begin writing short texts.

Grands Francophones (4th & 5th grade)  – This class is for truly fluent French speakers. All activities are conducted in French and focus on verbal and written expression, grammar and spelling. All activities are conducted in French and focus on verbal and written expression, grammar, and spelling. Students read longer texts and reinforce their grammar, spelling, conjugation, and vocabulary skills. Emphasis is placed on writing short texts of various types (dialogue, fiction, description, portrait…). Independent reading is encouraged.

Le français par le théâtre

Le français par le théâtre (K & 1st grade) –  This class is open to students who are fluent in French and is an introduction to theater through storytelling exercises and guided improvisations, allowing the children to practice the French language from the very start of the creative process. Each week the students exchange ideas to co-create a story, develop its characters and build its plot thereby strengthening their verbal skills and vocabulary in the French language.

Le français par le théâtre (2nd to 5th grade) –  This class is open to students who are fluent in French. Students will learn how to express themselves in public in French. This class is ideal for those looking to improve their verbal expression. Fluent or advanced French speakers are welcome. Language skills will be developed throughout the course.

 

French as Second Language (from Kindergarten to 5th grade)      

K to 5th grade – Beginners 1 & Beginners 2  – These classes focus on verbal communication and are adapted to the comprehension skills of young learners. The goal is to bring children to express simple phrases in basic social situations, through various and fun activities such as stories, creative projects, songs and games. Groups will be organized according to students’ French knowledge.


The EFNY program follows a French-only policy in all Francophone classes, and students from these classes will have weekly assignments for efficient progressPlease help us with this by encouraging your child to follow these rules.
