Registration for  2024-2025 at PS 3 (West Village) will open soon!

2024-2025 year will start on September 18th 2024, and end on June 11th 2025.
EFNY follows the DOE Calendar.
As spots are limited, registration is on a first come first served basis.

 Classes Description:

French for Francophones (from Kindergarten to 5th grade)

Petits Francophones (K & 1st grade) – This class is open to French speaking students in K and 1st grade. In this class, all activities are conducted in French. It aims to develop a rich oral language, organized and understandable by others. Children learn to be attentive to messages addressed to him, to understand and respond appropriately. Students will learn the alphabet, letters sounds and will be introduced to reading and writing in French.

Moyens Francophones (2nd & 3rd grade)This class is open to French speaking students in 2nd and 3rd grade, who are starting to read and write in French. In this class, all activities are conducted in French. Children will be introduced to varied and more complex texts, while learning some basic rules of grammar, spelling and conjugation. They will also begin to write short texts.

Grands Francophones (4th & 5th grade)  –  This class is open to students who are truly fluent in French, and focuses on verbal and written expression, grammar and spelling. In this class, all activities are conducted in French. The children read longer texts and consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling, conjugation and vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on written expression: namely write short varied texts (through dialogue, fiction, description, portrait). Children are encouraged to read independently.  

Le français par le théâtre (1st & 2nd grade) –  This class is open to students who are fluent in French and is an introduction to theater through storytelling exercises and guided improvisations, allowing the children to practice the French language from the very start of the creative process. Each week the students exchange ideas to co-create a story, develop its characters and build its plot thereby strengthening their verbal skills and vocabulary in the French language.

 

French as Second Language (from Kindergarten to 3rd grade)      

K & 1st grade – beginners 1 – This class is an introduction to verbal communication and is adapted to the comprehension skills of young learners. The goal is to bring the children to express simple phrases in basic social situations through various activities: stories, creative projects, songs and games.

2nd & 3rd grade – beginners 2 – This is an intermediate class for students with basic verbal and comprehension skills of the French language. The children continue building their verbal and comprehension skills and expand their vocabulary through varied and playful activities.  Beginners 2 must have at least 1 year of French.


The EFNY program follows a French-only policy in all Francophone classes, and students from these classes will have weekly assignments for efficient progressPlease help us with this by encouraging your child to follow these rules.
