Classes Description

French for Native Speakers (from Kindergarten to 5th grade).

Petits Francophones (K–1st grade) –  This class is for bilingual students. All activities are conducted in French and aim to develop rich, organized verbal language that others can understand. Children are encouraged to speak and be understood in French. They also learn to listen, comprehend, and respond appropriately. The class introduces the alphabet, phonics, and the first steps toward reading and writing in French. In 1st grade, students will build early literacy and grammar skills.

Moyens Francophones (2nd & 3d grade) – This class is for fluent French-speaking students who are already reading and writing in French. All activities are conducted in French. Children are introduced to more complex texts while strengthening grammar, spelling, and conjugation fundamentals. They also begin writing short texts.

Grands Francophones (4th & 5th grade) –  This class is for truly fluent French speakers. All activities are conducted in French and focus on oral and written expression, grammar, and spelling. Students read longer texts and reinforce their grammar, spelling, conjugation, and vocabulary skills. Emphasis is placed on writing short texts of various types (dialogue, fiction, description, portrait…). Independent reading is encouraged.

The EFNY program follows a French-only policy in all Francophone classes, and students from these classes will have weekly assignments for efficient progressPlease help us with this by encouraging your child to follow these rules.
